Heyyy! My name is Porscha and I am the founder of Chayah Activewear Clothing.
If you’ve heard my story before than you know that on January 2019 I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 34 after finding a lump in my breast….. yeah I know, 34 is super young. As a mom of 3 young girls ages 11, 4, and 2 at the time, I was devastated. All I could think of was how long will I have to live, what will happen to them, and I am not ready to die.
After my initial shock I went into fight mode. I began to pray and asked God for guidance on what to do. I decided to have a bilateral mastectomy. My results came back that I had Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, estrogen, progestin positive, HER2 negative breast cancer. My cancer was multi- focal, I had 3 lumps each with different stages. I also had a micro met on one of my lymph nodes, which was so small they originally missed it, when cutting the slides.
With prayer and guidance from the Lord I decided to research everything I knew about my pathology and find a naturopathic. The information that I found led me to making the decision to not have chemo and to opt to have an onco test done. This test would tell me the benefit or either having chemo or not having chemo. My test score came back a 17 and I decided not to have chemo. Not happy with the care and opinions of my then oncologist, I also decided to get a second opinion. That decision turned out to be the best decision I made. Not only did my new oncologist support me, listen to my concerns and made me feel like it was my treatment and decision, she gave me an alternative to chemo.
I decided to suppress my estrogen by taking a shot called Lupron and take tamoxifen pills as my treatment. The Lupron stops the release of estrogen in my body and the tamoxifen blocks any cells that may be present from feeding off of any estrogen that may be present.
Once I had my reconstruction done, I realized that one of the key things that I did not incorporate in my lifestyle was exercise. After reading all the benefits to exercising when battling cancer I decided to incorporate exercise alongside my change in eating habits, and it was then Chayah was born.
While exercising I realized that I didn’t like the pricing for all of the great quality and stylish active wear. I was just coming out of months of not working and 2 surgeries. I needed something affordable but also super supportive for my implants. A month later I would then need support and a way to mask the fact that I lost one implant to an infection, and so I decided to start my own active wear line, and Chayah (Shopchayah) was born.
Chayah, (pronounced “High-ya”) meaning life in Hebrew, gave me “life” during a time period that was full of ups and downs, wins and losses but I decided to all of it and share my testimony with other women who may be going through the same or similar difficulties in their lives and who are determined to push through them.
I have so much I want to share with you from what herbs and foods I’ve found that helps me the most, to what routines I have done during different stages of my life, and even how I am able to continue to have enough time and energy for my family of 5. So stay tuned because I will be sharing all that I have been blessed to overcome with you.
